October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It's October which means chillier weather and Halloween is just around the corner. It also means it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). BCAM is an international health event to raise awareness of the disease and to help raise funds for research into it's cause, research and most importantly cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women of all ages to be aware of their breast health for early prevention. Prevention is the key. Unfortunately, we all know someone who has been effected by this dreadful disease. It has taken far too many people and we need to do something to eradicate this disease from existence. I am proud to be a part of a generation that discusses cancer and that there are many places to turn to for support, education and treatment. As women we need to become advocates for our body and our health. We need to learn to listen to our bodies and know when something is not right. This is a great month to remind your mothers, aunts, sisters and any woman you love to do a self-breast exam and if you are 40+ get a mammogram. It could save a life. I dedicate this month to the many survivors living/battling with the disease everyday and to the many sheros who have lost the fight...we continue this fight for you! This is also a great month to give back to the cause and there are so many ways, run a 5K, shop to you drop, or throw a pink party charge admission & donate proceeds to a local breast cancer organization, or donate your time which is always appreciated. Throughout the month I will post the different ideas/resources that I come across that support Breast Cancer Awareness. I hope that you don't mind. This is my way of honoring the survivors I know or those who have lost their fight.
